Guidance and Councelling Office

The Counseling department is one of the sections under the Students’ Affairs Department. Our main mandate is to provide psychosocial support to all the students. We do this majorly through counseling and mentorship. Besides the university counselors, there are a number of trained peer counselors among the students who operate under the counseling section.

Majority of our students are young adults just getting into careers, relationships and for some of them, being living independently for the first time ever. This often comes with a lot of challenges, some of which destabilizes them emotionally, hence making them unable to fully concentrate in their studies. It is for this reason that Guidance and Counseling is necessary to help them overcome or cope with the challenges so as to attain psychosocial stability. It is only then that they are able to excel in their academics and graduate in time

The services we offer include

  • Individual counseling on personal challenges on areas such as finances, relationships, emotional distress, academic and health matter among others
  • Group counseling on issues such as drug addiction, early/unwanted pregnancy and relationships
  • Mentorship provided through a program christened ‘Coffee Hour’ every Wednesday as from 4 pm to 6pm. Here we give talks on a number of issues affecting students be they social, psychological or academic in nature.
  • Arbitration for students in conflict with fellow students, staff or external members of MMUST community.
  • Referrals to other professionals that may be of help to students such as academic staff, medical practitioners, chaplaincy, rehabilitation centers and financial institutions such as HELB among others.
